Happy belated Valentine’s Day from all of us at Daryanani Law Group! This year to celebrate Valentine’s, we decided to extend our love to our incredible “sweet” team. We stuffed ourselves with sugar, including donuts from The Donut Pub and Nama chocolates from Royce’ Chocolate. Nothing like a sugar rush to get those cases filed!
We Were Strangers Once Too, the winning design for the 2017 Times Square Valentine Heart Design Competition, celebrates New York City’s rich immigrant culture. The sculpture, on display in Father Duffy Square in Times Square, consists of thirty-three metal poles inscribed with the origins of foreign-born NYC residents. As viewers walk around the sculpture, the red and pink poles come together to create an iconic Valentine’s Day heart. “Now more than ever New Yorkers need to stand up and say we are proud to live in a city of immigrants,” says a spokesperson for The Office for Creative Research, which designed the sculpture. “We Were Strangers Once Too is our way to acknowledge and say thank you to the diverse communities of NYC for their many contributions historically, currently and into the future.”

Here in New York City three couples were married at the Empire State Building. Elsewhere, Italians celebrated in St. Peter's Square with Pope Francis. The French, who "claim the Valentine’s Day card originated in France when Charles, Duke of Orleans, sent love letters to his wife while imprisoned in the Tower of London in 1415," go out to restaurants, apparently. The British, usually so bold and upfront, send Valentine's Day cards anonymously. In Saudi Arabia celebrating Valentine's Day is prohibited. In Estonia Valentine's Day is Friends Day. In Latvia nine couples went bungee jumping "nearly" naked. In Pakistan students fought. In Beijing men wearing pig masks carried their girlfriends on their backs in a race to be selected as finalists during a kissing contest. The winner got an iPhone 5S. Whatever you may be doing, happy Valentine's Day.
